What is a "Tyrekicker"

Somebody who turns up to see a car, normally asks for a long test drive, rolls out question after question about the car, seems mightily interested and then you never hear from them again.

Hmmm, what distinguishes a tyre kicker and someone who just doesn't want to buy your car after viewing it though?

A tyrekicker will go to visit a car with the intention of not buying it. Purely to test it. Maybe they're looking at a certain type of car, and the one they'd like to buy is far away, so they wanted to test it first.

Or they simply can't afford it and want to drive it.

I see, but how do actually distinguish whether one is or not? I also don't see how putting it in the ad is going to deter them either?

It's a mental thing, they'll look at your ad and know you know how it works and they'll go somewhere else to 'test-drive' the car.

Just sounds like someone who geniually was interested but decided against it? Hardly a time waster

Problem is, the tyrekicker never had any intention of buying the car in the first place. They ask the right questions, give off the right vibes and then just walk away with no reason. They usually are the sort of people who just want a test drive for the sake of it.
