I was just watching a video about first boot and bios settings so it can help me with my build because the guy has the same mobo i will be using Asus P6X58D-E

and the guy went to storage configuation and there was a option, "configure sata as raid, IDE or AHCI" now he was doing raid so he chose raid, however for my build i will be installing operating system on a SSD, so it will not be IDE and the only option left is AHCI?

is that the option i will be choosing?

If your installing a SSD then you must select AHCI before you install the o/s. Don't worry too much about what it is - it's just another type of standard for storage controllers.

Hi, I have my SATA Seagate 500GB drive set at IDE. Should I have set it at AHCI.:o

Be careful about changing the mode after you have installed Windows as you risk boot problems. The best time to set AHCI for Windows Vista or Windows 7 is before an install then it loads the correct drivers.

If you change from IDE to AHCI after an install you need to edit the driver configuration in the registry to make sure the correct drivers are available after the change.

In day to day practical use for a traditional HDD there is no real gain in having AHCI instead of IDE. There may be some theoretical reasons why it is better but in reality there are no real benefits.
