What is an X99 board?

Hello folks

So I built my lovely X99/5820K system last month - all pretty good so far.
But now I have a reappearance of a minor confusion I've had with machines in the past.

If I go the Intel Download Centre to check for updates to my board (an AsRock X99 Extreme6 to be exact) what exactly should I select to find downloads for my board? There are various options in the dropdown box of the first category - I choose Desktop Boards. The next dropdown box is full of Intel 6 Series, 7 Series, 8 Series and the like. Not really sure so I work through each of them, each prompting another dropdown box of ever more unfamiliar nomenclature.
There's nothing as simple as an X99 download option.

Even after pouring over google and wiki for a while I can't find out if X99 goes by another name when considering chipset downloads etc.

So can someone tell me what 'Series' is my X99 board? If I want to search for downloads for it on the Intel Download site, what search terms should I select in the dropdown boxes?

By the way, I've obviously already tried the AsRock page and all the downloads there are over a year old.

Also, the Intel Driver Update Utility NEVER finds anything!

I'm probably being dim but I've never been able to figure this out.
Any insights on this would be very appreciated!

Thanks very much!

Hi

The chipset is X99 and the socket is LGA2011-v3.

The Intel chipsets are integrated into the Motherboard so they won't be named X99. They control things like Northbridge and Southbridge etc.

As for drivers for your board then everything should be on ASRock website. If a driver is a year old then that just means there is no newer one available.

I've found that to sometimes not be the case with some motherboard manufacturers including ASRock.

I've found no end of updated drivers on individual component sites or even just via windows updates

I find that Motherboard websites are usually pretty up to date, but you are correct in what you say. I think I had to download USB drivers from a 3rd party site when I built my Ivybridge system. And of course you can get things like Audio drivers direct from Realtek etc.

Yeah, as I said I had been to the AsRock website and they're all a year old. I know for sure there are newer ones and I have downloaded a few from elsewhere and seen performance improvements.

So, almost just as a matter of interest rather than anything else, what options should I click at the Intel Download Centre?
The first dropdown: Desktop boards seems the obvious choice.
The next dropdown: No idea.

Or is that download page not really designed for X99 systems?

Thanks! :)
