less than £30M.

He's had one good season.

I would buy Michu before Bale.

How much would Messi be worth if he was for sale ?

At current market rates £300-£500 million.

Wasn't bolded when I looked at it I'm sure.

Anyway as to be worth more than £1m? Obviously it's subjective. Financially? Probably. Morally? I find it abhorrent.

Few things to point out, if a player like Ronaldo has 15mil in personal sponsorship and his club own 50% of his image rights, he's worth alone through that at 7.5milllion a season. Winning the champs league vs going out just after the group stage can be a 20-25mil difference in income before you factor in shirt/club sponsors and what you can negotiate as a winning team with more viewers gaining more fans, and a losing team who get less exposure.

As for abhorrent... the fans pay x amount to watch football. Ultimately one of the bigger reasons for increase of money in football is more that the rights to view are being sold to more people for increasing amounts, rather than the fans in the UK being charged more and more all the time(afaik sky sports for instance has been 30 odd quid a month for absolutely ages while tv revenue has gone up 200-300%). So the moral question is, is it better for 50 players at a club to get the big money, or the single club owner to have ALL that money himself?

So is the money better for you and me left in one mans account who has one huge house and a few cars and the extra billions would literally just be extra numbers in a bank account, or in 50 players hands, who buy 50 houses, and 150 cars, and employ 50 assistants, and personal trainers, cooks, invest in new businesses, hire people in those businesses(ferdy's restaurant for instance), start new design companies and basically spend a lot of that money AND pay HUGE obscene amounts in tax.

The advertising money and tv money is there.... I massively prefer it in 1000's of players hands who all pay tax, who all spend huge sums of cash that both generates tax and employs people, than all in a handful of owners bank accouts..... don't you?

Bag of monkey nuts...

Probably about 25-30m is a sensible price, money over that is almost always just a bit mad (Ronaldo and Messi being the exceptions)

Michu would be better value, but not as much as you think, at 2mil I'd buy 5 Michu's over one Bale at 50mil +, but Michu would go for 20mil + today most likely.

For Bale, he's WORTH 20mil 12/15/30 goals, odds on for that to come down not go up. I'd throw in between 10-20mil more for the POTENTIAL that he might be worth more than he currently is based on seeing him play. Some players have one epic goal scoring season but its all tap ins and penalties and they were actually no different to a usual 10 goal season in actual quality. Bale improved a lot, he looked a genuine goal threat all season, he has huge power/pace/strength and his movement was good. He got some absolutely gifted goals, all players do, he scored a bunch of screamers that very few players could score... thats what makes him a player who has high potential to become a top player, but not THAT high.

20mil for a one off 30 goal season 40mil if he's showing huge potential, 80mil if he can do that every single season and has proved it. 80mil for a one season wonder... never, ever, ever.

Morals don't really come into it though, do they? Morality and ethics are left behind when it becomes a business. Football is more big business and much less sport these days. Unfortunately that's just the modern game.
They may not, but it doesn't mean they shouldn't come into it.

I find modern football entirely distasteful. But then, who gives a damn?

some blerg
Everything you've written here just proves why I find modern football so distasteful.

As for tax, you don't think they all pay accountants to avoid as much tax as possible?

I really can't understand how they get paid so much!

Because they're the sole reason Sky and therefore football fans pay an awful lot of money into football. They generate the revenue, therefore they've earned it in return, and if their club don't pay it then somebody else will.

They may not, but it doesn't mean they shouldn't come into it.

Why is it any more distasteful than any other business? Players are paid what they are worth to the business.

If anything, it would be more distasteful for Sky to pay a lot of money for clubs, and players not to be paid a reasonable share of that money as the primary reason for it coming into the club.

Van Persie is probably at his peak (turning 30 in a week) now or just past it. So I don't think you can compare Bale to him.

I think the best comparison would be when Saurez moved to Liverpool. Both would be the same age; approximately 24. The difference being Bale is more well known now than Saurez was and potentially Bale may be a better choice in terms of character/prospect etc.

Saurez was £22.8mil; that puts Bale at no more than £40mil in my books.

Suarez is only 2 years older, scored more goals last season and overal as good as Bale.

This is why in the transfer thread i said how Suarex for even 55m is bargain of the century seeing how Bale is priced at 80-100m.

Suarez should be priced same as Bale. If it wasnt for Suarez antics he would be worth MORE then Bale as Strikers cost more then midfielders in general

If bale was a graphics card he would be the 780gtx expensive and fast but he ain't no titan:eek::D:o:cool:

na not quite. Bale would cost more then a titan and still be slower.

Think of it this way.

The titan is CRonaldo, proven and the most expensive player bought, Bale is a rip off titan wannabe thats priced same as a titan but half the speed of a titan card
