Hi guys, I need a little guidance, looking to buy a GTX980ti and cannot make my mind up on which one (Will be OC'd version though) Currently looking at EVGA Classified, Gigabyte G1, Asus OC Strix and possibly the MSI Lightning. I don't have much knowledge of MSI but from reading reviews they seem quite good. I want max frame rates to replace my GTX770 SLI setup but a good compromise on noise and heat output. I keep looking at reviews and swing from one to the other! I really like the look of the ASUS as it will match my MB but I did hear they had problems with the initial batch of heatsinks not making full contact. I notice they are on back order atm so hopefully rectified in next batch. Any advise gratefully received.

You do know sli 770's are slightly more powerful or the same depending on test as a 980ti.

Unless ur getting issues / running out of vram i would wait till pascal.

980 ti trades blows with a 970sli setup according to some reviews i watched on youtube, so it should definately trump a 770 sli setup

Yes, especially the if the 770s are 2GB versions while playing recent games. I reckon a 980 with a decent OC can beat 770 SLI tbh. When SLI is having an off day, it'll be years ahead.

A GTX 980 Ti is nearly 3X as fast as a GTX 770 and that is before we even mention SLI.

Im sorry but that is a load of rubbish. a single 980ti destroys SLI 770's, and I know this for a fact considering I just followed that same upgrade path.

I had the 4gb cards, x2 in SLI and at 1440p I was getting around 55-60fps with GTAV on very high settings but still with a few options turned down.

On my 98oti - 1440p again, settings higher than they were before - 100-110fps constant.

4k - GTA wouldn't run over 30fps with the 770's, but now I can run GTAV in 4k at 70fps at its peak - with the same test settings as on the 770's.

OP - I have heard good things about the Strix and lightning but it seems the best performing out of those two would be the lightning.

Are you planning on going SLI again with these or just going to run a single card?

I was going to go SLI but I really don't think I need it right now, especially with the new cards next year. I am currently playing BF4 mostly so 1 card should be more than good enough. Thanks for your input.

The Lightning has the best cooler of the bunch, but as far as performance goes they're all pretty much the same (once you overclock they'll end up within 50-80 Mhz from each other).
The Strix is fine, just watch out for the led, some people can't make it stop pulsating (and that would be a deal breaker for me).

The strix led can only be turned off or slight alterations to its flash sequence via the led options in the gheforce experience app, it can't be turned to a stationary on state at present.

As far as coolers go, the palit jet stream is regarded as one of the best in a lot of reviews. seems to be a card not many mention for some reason. Techpowerup measured 31db at load which is nuts.
