As per title,

I currently use a Seasonic X series 650w PSU, this is pretty old, and pre Haswell. I think it may be responsable for some odd shut down issues I have such as restarts or occasional 05 sleepstates instead of powering off when I click shut down.

So as I intend on getting a new GPU, most likely a GTX 1070, I am also considering a shiny new PSU within the 550w to 650w range, as efficient and quiet as possible with the additional option of Cablemod compatability, fully modular.

What are the current recommendations?

Hmm.

I thought it may have been the later X-Series that was compatible, not my older model.

My Seasonic X-650 is the 1st generation bought 1st December 2009, I was sure it had been revised pre Haswell and that was what had been tested. Could be wrong.

My issue is that, sometimes I click shutdown, but sometimes the system instead restarts, sometimes a few times in a row, other times it simply goes to sleep with a 05 code on the motherboard, sometimes it does as it is expected and shuts down as asked.

Completely random but pressing shut down will always give me one of the three options above. And due to being unable to get an answer some time back from Asus I assumed PSU specification.

From what I have read - 05 - OEM initialization before microcode loading - what is causing it I don't know.

Well I guess there is life in the old PSU yet.

I actually have a spare Cooler Master V-1000 that was for dual GPU set up I didnt use, but overkill for this system I guess.

New PSU may still be on the cards, I have two spare 7950 and two other PC's with lesser cards, though only a 450w Corsair modular PSU for one of them. I either use the 1000w or buy a new 550w plus and pass the X-650 onto the Z97 I plan on putting together for the kids.
