What is E0 stepping ?

Afaik all E8600 and all Q9650. The others are a lottery.

The stepping is just a revision, manufacturing improves with time.

There are "better" CPUs than others in all revisions, each batch can be different (less power, more power, better overclocker, worse overclocker, more voltage, less voltage etc).

It seems that E0 = good on everything but the Q9550 as it provides no benefit over C1, at least that seems to be the vibe of late.

Even if the difference were only marginal, so long as that margin was an improvement I would always try to get a product of equal cost that was even just marginally better, in this case that doesn't mean refusing to purchase a C1 it just means seeing if anyone can supply an E0, if not, then fine I'll go for C1.

Though now I'm beggining to wonder whether the E0 are actually worse, not being that great with the technical side of things means I'm having trouble determining the best course from what I've read so far.

I'm not interested in buying a C1 just "coz they're good" if E0 will be better, you wouldn't say that early Q6600s were bad, but when G0 stepping came out they were obviously much more preferable.

And from searching around it would seem that nobody is as sure about E0 stepping on the Q9550 as they were about G0 stepping on the Q6600.
