The last time i looked for a new screen was when i bought the one i have now.

At that time almost every brand with every line had 1080P and 1440P versions of the same screen, with 1440P screens just as abundant as 1080P screens.

Whats more if a 1080P screen was £160 a 1440P screen was something like £230.

I'm now on the lookout for a 1440P screen, to my surprise 1440P screen are some what of a rarity, even 25/26" ones are still only 1080P with the odd exception.

And the price, these day you don't get much change from £350, even for cheaper ones.

What with that? how is it that 2 or 3 years ago 1440P screens were abundant and pretty standard to now being exclusive and rare?

Don't remember 1440p being £230. Used to get some ~£300 panels which were usually A- grade LG panels in a cheap chassis and not the most reliable hence a lot of retailers got a bit reluctant of selling them and then the A and A+ grade panels sold at £700+.

I don't remember 1440p screens being that common or that cheap.

Some snapshots from the past:

  • A year ago OcUK sold eight 1440p monitors ranging from £380-£1,000.
  • Two years ago they had five models ranging from £320(This Week Only)-£800.
  • Three years ago there were five models (four of them Hazro) ranging from £400-£630.
  • Four years ago one model at £888.
  • Five years ago there were none.

You're remembering incorrectly. 2560 x 1440 screens (technically no such thing as 1440p, it isn't a TV resolution) are more abundant now than they've ever been. They have always been completely separate from 1920 x 1080 models - using different backlights, panel type variants and with different capabilities outside of resolution. Importantly models from mainstream manufacturers have only gone down in cost to under £400 fairly recently, they've never been as cheap as you're incorrectly remembering. Unless you saw one from a non-mainstream manufacturer on (very) special offer.
