I was a big fan of WoW but have not got the time to play this as much anymore so dont see the monthly fee as something that i can see worth while, so i was wondering what GUILD WAR is like?

Pluses and minuses please :D

Thanks in advance

I guess it depends what your expecting from the game and if you have played many MMORPG's before such as WOW and EQ2.

GuildWars isn't a MMORPG and doesn't claim to be. You can meet with lots of real life players in the city zones, but when you go out adventuring you can only take a small party with you as all the adventure zones are instanced. You can also do the actual 'Guild' battles against real people. I found this was fun, but soon got a little boring. I also found the levels themselves restricitive, it's difficult to explain but you come up against invisible barriers a lot, there are very distinctive 'corridors' for you to walk in which make it feel restrictive for me and really bug me for some reason.

I was initially very impressed with Guildwars, the graphics are great and the game seemed fun, after a couple of weeks the novelty wore off and I've never really gone back to it, I was soon back to EQ2 and WOW. I think I just prefer actual MMORPG's, I know plenty of other people who think it's a great game though.

i like it, interesting story and i like the fact i don't have to group with other people all the time (you can hire npc players in towns then go off to do a mish).

i agree the landscapes are quite restrictive, there is no jump button, but it doesn't feel like a continual grind like i found wow to be. plus as you max at lvl 20 there seems to be a lot less willy-waving than in wow.

as another plus, the game is only £17.99 and as you have said, no sub fees. def. worth a try.

plus you can have the pleasure of playing with us ocuk'ers on there, and you get a lovely black cape :D

here's the guild base

and here's more of an action shot, i say action... it's more (un)organised chaos

Nice at first but gets boring later if you don't do much PvP. You'll start to miss WoW....NO-ONE ESCAPES FROM WOW :p

I got GW first and then WoW in the summer and although I personally prefer WoW much more, I'm kinda glad I got GW first as it was a nice introduction to 'MMORPG-type' games for me and the wonders of online gaming.

Tbh, I'm actually looking forward to reinstalling it after my exams as I haven't played it for 2 months now but I know I'll just get bored after a week after getting another character to Level 20 and finishing story mode, and then pay another £8.99 for WoW...

Same here after about 2 weeks.

WoW was 10x better.
yup me2 :(

I have gone back to playing WoW now and it's amazingly different to guild wars.
Just look at screenshots to compare the interface, without even looking at the gameplay :)

I got GW and have played for a few hours and am undecided.

First impressions:

Havent found any real online people to go around with, so cant really comment on the community.

Dont like the fact that you cant jump. Makes you feel quite restrictive.

And movement during combat seems a little limited too. I find myself watching rather than fighting.

All in all it seems like a fun game, just need some more friends to play with :P
