What is it and should I get more?

I currently have two sticks of

cdPde.jpg.png

what ever that is.

I am running an Intel Core 2 CPU 6600 @ 2.4GHz, windows 7 64bit.

Would my PC become noticeably better with 4 gigs of ram? If so is the above memory still available or should I get 4 gigs of something more recent?

Mother board is a ASUSTeK P5L1394

Thanks for your help.

Would try to get at least the same sticks/version. Should perk up a bit with 4gb on a 64 bit os. Its corsair xms 2 xms6405 version 5.1, might be tough though, can't find it even on ebay.

If I cant find it should I just get 4 new gigs? If so any recommendations or limits as to what my computer can run?

Thanks for identifying it!

It really depends on what you do - whether you will need the extra memory. Most people here regard 4GB as a good ammount to have as you will never run out of memory when using most games and applications. However, if you are reasonably light user - then 2GB could be enough. Personally I would say upgrade, but its not massively cheap with current DDR2 prices.

If you do want to go up to 4GB would probably easier to buy a 4GB kit like this (2x2GB) than sell on your current kit on the MM and offset the cost a bit.

How much better is this? http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-190-CS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=813

5200 Vs 6400

I don't really game any more but I have definitely noticed my PC slowing up a bit and struggling with the latest releases such as black ops and what not, I would like to have the option to play these games.

Well your motherboard seems to be rated to 5300 (533MHz) - so your current 6400 set is most likely being down-clocked. You can check this by downloading and running CPU-Z and going to the memory tab.

As for performance in games, may I ask what graphics card you have?

Edit- sorry PC2-5300 is 667MHz, not 533.

For the price i'd just get the value select 4gb and bung it in with the corsair for 6Gb. Doubt the board is actually running your XMS at anything near its rated speed, and it'll downclock to the value select timings, 945p isn't really that hard on the memory so mixing in this case isn't a big issue, didn't realise what board it was.

8800 GTS 320mb - It's certainly on the upgrade list as well, I just thought I would ask about the ram first. I'm thinking Gibbo's latest special offer is looking good! http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18218551

I don't really know what this down clocking in but worryingly in the memory tab on CPU-Z it says DRAM frequency 333.3mghz. Is it running slower than it should?

This also seems to tie in with the memory being slower than it should theory, thanks for the replies so far guys!

Your memory is running fine :)

DDR(v2) stands for Double Data Rate, that means that for every actual clock cycle two data transfers occur (this means that the effective frequency is doubled). Hence your RAM is currently running at 333MHz actual clockspeed, but the effective clockspeed is 667MHz - which is the maximum RAM speed your motherboard supports.

Hence if you upgraded to a 4GB RAM kit then you may as well save the £5 and get the PC2-5300 (667MHz) kit, as if you bought the PC2-6400 (800MHz) kit it would only be able to run at 667MHz.

As for that 5850 graphics card - that is a cracking deal, I would buy ASAP as I bet the pre-order slots are running out.

If I put that in my computer will it be able to run with my current memory giving me 6 gigs? I don't want to break anything!

Thanks for all the help so far guys!

It should work OK with 6GB, so long as you refer to your motherboard manual to ensure you run them in dual channel mode.

If you do find they are too much for your memory controller to handle (reasonably unlikely) then you can just keep the 4GB kit and sell the 2GB kit - the second hand price of DDR2 doesn't seem to be falling too much.
