if I wanted to watch a musical I would watch a musical
but I don't.... I can't stand them!

I blame Buffy the vampire slayer who I think started the rot. within a week I have had to put up with a crap episode of Lucifer and now star trek strange new worlds.

I have 2 episodes of alien earth to go am half expecting the xenomporph to break into song! :D

what makes it worse is these episodes are usually well received. I don't get it!.

It's not just me then :P I HATE them!

The one in Alan Wake 2, nearly ruined the game for me too. I don't care that it appealed to those with 1 brain cell

It’s probably because they are a lot of fun to make for the whole crew.

Many actors have done broad performance art training, I assume, including singing and dancing.

None of which the viewer cares about when choosing to watch a specific show/movie/game that wasn't portrayed to be a musical :P

My wifes view is if I dislike them so much just skip it then. An argument I can't logically counter.
however much like I find it very hard to give up on a film I have put an HR into even if it's a bit rubbish I just know if I skip an episode of a series it will eat at me (it really annoyed me that when I started my doctor who revisit there are missing episodes and some of those have really aged badly.
I suspect (know!) I am on the spectrum somewhere!

Funny you should say that as I'd thought the scenes in ST:SNW where Spock and La'an were dancing felt shoe horned in and I thought it was probably because she was a dancer irl.

Just checked her out and surprise surprise

Christina Chong is a former professional dancer

Aww come on, wheres ya blitz spirit, we'd have never made it through the war if it wasnt for everyone getting together regularly for a good ol fashioned sing song round the pianer

Can't say I've seen many series with the odd musical episode but do remember it's always sunny in philadelphia being pretty good but it played into the dark humour.

Buffy's musical episode is incredible, full stop.
It really isn't.
Most of the cast can't sing even halfway well enough, can barely hit the right notes and certainly can't hold them or power them out to do the songs sufficient justice.
James Marsters and Tony Head did a pretty good job, but the songs they were given were almost a complete waste of their actual talent.

On paper, it seems like a brilliant idea, but the execution was abysmal.

Excuse me Sir, I take great offense at that statement, we don't have time for standing around the ivories and crooning, we are busy "Lambeth Walkin'" around the dance hall to lift our spirits!

I loved the Buffy one.. Thought it was quality however it was 20 years ago. Didnt like the SNW one.. I seem to recall there being one in The Flash as well as fringe and Supernatural. This has been going back waaaaaaay before buffy tho. I am sure they did a Xena Warrior Princess one, The Love boat, Brady Bunch, I love Lucy.

I dont mind the odd interlude though. I think the couple of Lady Gaga dances in the Wednesday show is really good(Props to the girls in the latest season learning the routine in 5 days) and The People like Us one in Doom Patrol was brilliant.

Funny thing is there are only 3 Musicals i have ever really liked as well.. :o Sound of Music, Xanadu and Grease.

Back to Buffy though, Once More with Feeling is renowned for being the best of all the musical episodes of any TV show,
