What is making my screen slighty blurry like this?

its kind of blurring that moves steadily across the screen diagonally down?

i have a NVidea Gforce 9500 GT PCI 512MB and a HP w2207h monitor

my pc has always done this when i put the screen resolution to higher.

I am writing music with my PC and really want to put the resolution up a bit .

but the slight blurring make my eyes hurt a bit especially when reading or detail work?

Anyone got any ideas what is causing the blurring and what i might try to fix it?

Thanks in advance :)

If the blurring moves down the screen all the time, it's artifacting and you need to check your connection and/or GPU.
If it's constantly there, it may be something to do with the scaling, are you using a VGA or DVI/HDMI connection? If VGA, this is probably the culprit.

Check through your monitors settings for the sharpness, display mode etc...

Hi and welcome to the forum.

What is the native resolution of the screen?

What resolution are you outputting from the PC?

They should be the same.

I'd say you are not running the screen at it's native resolution.

How do i check what the native resolution is? I am running at 1600x1000 if i right click the desktop properties

How do i check the native resolution of my screen? and how do i check what i am outputting?

Have you tried clicking the auto adjust button on the bottom of your monitor?

i have don't this many times before i am sure it hasn't fixed it but cheers.

i am connecting via a one of those plugs that has 2 screw it bits either side. (not a HDMI) . my graphics card has 2 sockets . I'm not sure if i can unplug the monitor cable while its running to take a picture so i dont know if they are both the same type of socket?

my monitor is HPw2207h
my graphics card is NVidea Gforce 9500 GT PCI 512MB

is VGA 'the plug with the 2 screws'
(apologies for the description.... i dont think i could work for VGA's marketing department with a description like that)

Generally

VGA = Blue plug

DVI = White plug

Both have 2 screws. Your HP 2207H has a native res of 1680x1050. If you are using a VGA cable check to see if there is a "missing" pin in the male ends of the cable. I'd try and find a DVI tbh

cheers

answer is blue plug

So I have VGA then

i double checked i am connecting via a plug labbeled VGA i also have a DVi and TV out on the card

My HP monitor doesnt seen to have anything other than a VGA input? it says HDMI on the front of it?

So how shoulfd it be connected?

sorry for 100 questions

a missing pin ? how do i check this?

can my HP monitor accept DVI?

Looks like VGA or hdmi only. Does your 9500 have a hdmi adaptor?

Also, I'd set the resolution to the panels native and check the refresh rate is at 60hz (sometimes shown as 59 by Windows)

ok i'll change the resolution up to the 1680x1050

i have no HDMI adapter on the card?

what is better:
to get a graphics card with a HDMI output,
or get a monitor with a DVI input.

You already own the monitor... And that card is very weak in most respects. Firstly I'd check it isn't the monitor at fault. Get hold of a different VGA cable and another pc or laptop to test

hi thanks for the replies

the resolution deos look a bit better now its set to 1680x1050. its a bit on the small side but hey :)

i might treat myself to a new lead what do i need to look for in a VGA lead are there different types?

ok quick update

i am still getting odd shimmering on some text

i went to run an install of belaric advisor to find out my pc specs

on the mini licence install screen the word were completely shimmering

my concern is that after long hours at high screen resolutions i get a few eye strain type head aches.

i think the monitor is shimmering even if dont notice it so much

i'm usually fine at low resolutions

but i am writing music on my computer and i really need a higher resolution to get more on the screen.

my graphics card is pretty basic, but i only need to display graphics nothing moving to fast or 3D or anything.

do i need to change to a card with HDMI to suit my monitor?
or should i get a DVI monitor?

which is best

is VGA the worst of the three?

could i use a dvi to HDMI lead?

Cheers

VGA is technically the "worst" currently used PC display but still, you shouldn't be seeing obvious shimmering. What you need to do is get hold another cable and another machine to output to the screen. Use a process of elimination

Does your PC have onboard video?

Oh and edit your sig - no competitor mentions, it's against forum rules ;)
