I can't seem to find an explanation of what memory bandwidth is, and how it works and impacts performance. From what I've gathered, it's how much data can be pulled to and from the video memory per second, but considering my card has a memory bandwidth of 192GB/s, I'm not quite sure that's correct.

So what exactly is memory bandwidth on a GPU and how is it different to the memory speed which on my card is 6Gbps?

I believe it's the speed the GPU can access the data in the VRAM: this is directly related to bus width, i.e 384-bit vs 512-bit and VRAM speed, e.g. 6GBps.

This is obviously much faster than trying to access system RAM over the PCI Express bus.

At least that's how I think it is :)
