Hi all,

I just got a new PC with a QX6850 CPU. Vista says its @3.0ghz, 900mhz/ 3d mark06 says its at 3000mhz. CPU-Z says clock speed of 2000mhz, multiplier 6, bus speed 333.3mhz, rated FSB 1333.3mhz.

Which is right and how can I tell if its really at 3ghz? I have an Asus Striker mobo.

Thanks

Both are right. It's intels speedstep reducing the power consumption by slowing the pc down when idle. When you open a game or anything it will run at it's full speed.

as above:

speedstep is a technology that will reduce the multiplier from 9 to 6 in times of non usage, thus saving you power.

pretty much spot on, you can disable these features in the bios, but there's no real need - even for overclocked systems.

Overclocked systems can crash with this enabled. It also drops the CPU voltage but NOT the FSB and that can cause the CPU to crash. Varies from system to system though and if you can get away with leaving it on I don't see a problem.
