WTF. Second day running and the foil my sandwiches is wrapped in is all corroded and full of holes. I'm getting worried now. I don't think I'm doing anything different; same old stuff in the sandwiches, same other stuff in my lunch, same plastic carrier bag, except the inside is covered in some kind of aluminium slurry from the foil.

Help me

Johnny.....you and your cooking exploits...

I think the first question is, have you been putting sulphuric acid in your sandwiches again?

Condensation carried along from fridge if you are making them the night before?

Don't put them in foil until the day you eat them. If you make it the night before then leave the sandwich in the fridge without foil then foil it in the morning.

Better still to avoid soggy bread is to use tupperware so then no worries re foil corrosion from fridge condensation.

On a more serious note, do you have ketchup on your sandwitches? Its pretty acidic (pH 3.85)and will oxidise the foil if left in contact with it for a while. Alumunium oxide sandwitches are not om nom nom.

Things like BBQ sauce will probably be a similar level of acidity.

I demand pics! I will show them to my Lady, she is an industrial chemist, and might be able to help :D

Foil is typically 99.9% aluminum, so it could be you have a dodgy batch, which is reacting with something salty? (Im not an expert here, and am probably barking totally up the wrong tree)
