Ok im going to ask this question in full body armour in preperation for the barrage of abuse!
I aint an idiot (well that depends i guess) but i do know its basically getting your hardware to run faster than it was intended to but on the downside if gives off more heat and more likely to burn itself out!
That is where my understanding starts and ends!!
Do you overclock with programs?
Do you need spciffic cooling equipment to combat the heat?
Is it dangerous? (what are the chances of burning somet out?!)
How easy is it to do?
Would you reccomend overclocking after warranties run out!?
Can it be done on older rigs? or does it need to built with overclocking parts in mind!?

Finally, thanks for taking the time to read what to 99% of this forum would appear to be the most lamest thread posted!

Programs: yes and no, we use programs to confirm speeds, temperatures and test for stability.

Dangerous: Not really, unless your a **** and put 2V though a 1.4V CPU.
Watch the temps, voltages and you will be fine. Unless your stupid and use stupid voltages/let it reach 70C+ then overclocking will only reduce lifespan by 25%? Thats still 15 years. Itll be long gone before it gets there!

Cooling: Well, stock cooler can allow a small overclock, the rest of air coolers by dedicated designed things with 120mm fans for max air cooling, some go for water/phase (phase is subzero temps)

Easy? Well, yes for me it is and all experienced overclockers, infact I can list 30 memory timings for two sets of ram off the top of my head. There are plenty of guides and us to help.

Warrenty: No real way of testing to see if its overclocked, many of us overclock from the day its put together.

Rigs: Basically anything custom built, anything built by companies (pre-built) rarely can be overclocked.

I overclock everything I can, and most people can too :p

CR.
