Its refreshing to see someone honest enough to state they know little about overclocking Nitrojan. It's much easier to help someone who is honest about there abilities than someone who claims to know a lot but in reality knows very little.
Echo what w3bbo has said, its obvious some people try to make themselves look bigger by trying to make other people look smaller! shame on you!
OcUK forums for the most part is one of the more friendly forums so lets keep it that way.
Nitrojan: Prime95 is just software thats designed to search for new prime numbers (mathmatics) however as it comes with a stress test the overclocking community have used it for many years to test the stability of machines/processors. If the CPU is a bit flaky the program will halt with an error and you know something is wrong.
There is no limit to the amount of time this program can run, it doesn't ever stop until it find an error so basically its up to you to decide when your machine is stable enough.
Back in the day I used to run Prime95 for a full 24 hours before I could be confident the overclock processor was stable however I have a few machines and its not such a hassle for me to tie one up in testing but a lot of folks with just one machine didn't want to wait a full 24 hours before they could start gaming and having fun so the duration got chopped down more and more.
Today the longest you would want to run the test is for approx 8-12 hours but even 1/2/4 hours is basically enough to indicate you got some stability. Normally if there is an error it will happen between 10 seconds and 1 hour so if you can pass this length you are heading in the right direction.
Personally I now am shying away from endless prime sessions because I have become obsessed with energy useage, can't tell you how many hundreds of ££££ I have spent on my electricity bills from running long priming sessions on multiple machines.
Hope that helps and good luck with the learning
