My old CPU cooler was dying a noisy death so I've fitted a Scythe Shuriken today. Now, the fan for the most part on it is not spinning. Is this something to do with whatever PWN is or do I have a problem? I've checked the CPU temp and it's about 30C, the fan is coming on when I put a bit of load on the system.

Hey!

I think you mean PWM! :p

Pulse Width Modulation

It's a slightly more advanced way of controlling fan speed. The old school 3-pin fans get their speed controlled by the voltage being lowered and raised, works ok but PWM (4-pin) doesn't adjust the voltage the same way, instead it *flicks* the power on and off, on and off.

Have a nose in your BIOS for some kinda fanspeed control, if the motherboard thinks the chip is cool enough it won't bother turning the fan on, nice! :)

Yep that's the one :)

The fan control stuff in the bios is set to PWM but I wasn't sure if if should have stopped the fan altogether but from what you've said it does.
