I am just curious as I can't really seem to find this specific comparison.

Tri SLI GTX 260s

Or

Dual SLI GTX 280s?

Anyone got a link to a benchmark? All I seem to be able to find is one 260 vs one 280, or two of each etc.

After seeing OC's pricing, looks like three 260s would cost £600ish and two 280s cost about the same so it would be interesting to see.

Eh? two 280's or three 260's is faster than 2x 4870. No comparison.

I'd just go for SLI 280's as they have 1GB. Plus less overall noise.

BUT i wouldn't go for any unless you have a 30" 2560x1600 monitor. I mean i have a 30" monitor and my single 280 can run any game at 2560x1600 with atleast 2x AA + 16 AF on max settings ... bar Crysis of course.

Yea but 1 4870 is faster than 1 GTX260 and a lot cheaper than 1 GTX280.

If someone was to buy 2x GTX280, they could buy 3x 4870 for that.

Err. Wasn't there a 4870 review or two where the 4870s in crossfire were beating SLIed GTX280s, so that's to be called into question.

The Tri-SLI would likely be faster, however would also be plagued by the issues that a lot of TRI-SLI users seem to be suffering (lack of compatability, bugs with SLI, and sometimes poor utilisation of other cards)

Sli 280's would be better on 2560x1600 due to 1gb however if your Mobo isn't just restricted to SLi and your not using that res i would go for 4870's CF

Aye, seen a few actually where the dearer cards are getting stomped on by even two 4850s. MR.B = Nvidia 4 life :p.

rofl.. yes i bet a lot of games can run at that res but i imagine the framerate would dip horribly at that res and newer games.
