Just wondered what the area is like around Snodland?

What does 600pcm rent get you in say a 10 mile radius?

What surrounding towns are nice, yet affordable with a bit of night life should I wish to seek a lady friend at the weekends?

I'm just worried that Kent is too expensive, even above Essex, where I am now.

The job I will be interviewed for is £32k-45k (I think it is salary banded based on progression, I will have to check)

How would I fair in Kent on £32k? for the first 12 months, single chap, would still like some money left to go out with etc etc

I'm moving from Essex to Kent and am finding I can get more for my money if you compare like for like areas (i.e. don't compare Seven Oaks with Tilbury!) :)

Well, I am currently in a small town just outside Chelmsford, and am paying 600pcm.

What areas in Kent do you recommend?

I'm reading of a nasty cement works and problems with rain in Snodland, would like to avoid this :p

I currently live in Halling - up the road from Snodland, Cement works has been closed for about 10 years. There is a treatment works around the Ham Hill area that can make it smell but it depends where you live in Snodland. I don't know of any problems with rain tbh.

10 miles is quite a wide area to look at, you can probably get a nice 1/2 bed flat or a small house for 600pcm. Night life is going to be Maidstone or Rochester, bit of travel to keep in mind from Snodland :)

£32k should fair quite well if you can get a place central to what you want. Me/swimbo where on around £32k between us and had it quite comfortable. One thing to watch is the council tax.

Is there somewhere actually called that?

Yes, and it's a dump. Used to know someone who lived there, and I visited his place once. Not running-gun-battles-in-the-street rough, just an ugly soul-less small market town with absolutely nothing to recommend it.

Agreed!!!

Also, in the summer, the smell from the sewerage works at times can be horrible. A friend of mine lived there and sometimes in the summer they had to saty inside with the windows shut as the stink of human faeces was so strong!!

Is Maidestone nice enough? With a bit of night life?

I might be able to stretch to 700pcm...
