WHAT IS SPREAD SPECTRUM ON OR OFF

HI ALL

just got a new gigabyte microatx mobo knf51-9 and looking through bios i see the following

pci-e spread spectrum - center
cpu spread spectrum -center
sata spread spectrum - center

plus a couple more now these all have the option to disable them i remember old days u just got spread spectrum and disabled it but not seen a board with so many different ones


what do they do and is it best to disable

Turn it off
Can't remember the precise details of what it does ATM, but its aimed at reducing RF interference from the PC, and will do this but at the cost of some stability.

Yeah, if I remember correctly it rounds clock edges to reduce interference and as a by product will reduce the maximum overclock because the clock is less well defined.
