What is the best all round cheese to keep at home ?

I normally use cheddar or red leicester but I no longer like it as much ,

I want something that will get me that eating out taste, to give you a idea I use it raw in sandwiches a lot, toasties, pizzas, parmesan, Pasta

should i change brand ?

I wouldn't tend to have an all-round cheese, but I like Double Gloucester on a sandwich.

For macaroni cheese I like Comte or Gruyere.

For just eating on it's own with some bread and a glass of red wine, nothing beats Epoisses de Bourgogne.

On italian dishes I prefer Pecorino to Parmesan.

cheddar, have you tried different ones, as there's a fair variety of strengths and flavours, especially farmhouse style which taste nothing like the rubbery cheap supermarket own brand stuff.
It's just a darn good all-rounder which goes with most things and melts nicely.

Nothing beats a mild or medium cheddar for an all around cheese tbh. For something a little different could try Parmesan as suggest above.

Mild cheddar is essentially just tasteless plastic. Personally I can't stand the stuff. I'd say that a good extra mature/vintage cheddar makes a great all-rounder though.

Absolutely this.

Always go for Waitrose strength 6 cheddar at home, could eat it by the block :D

I always have a small block of pecorino romano in the fridge for when I need to do a last minute carbonara.

Not sure about an all-round cheese existing. How can you grate something on your pasta and expect to put the same thing in a sandwich?

But that said, try Seriously Strong cheddar. If you're used to mild cheddar this should get your taste buds tingling nicely.

We have Aldi mature cheddar as our all rounder, its very cheap and has a nice enough taste - as said tho as soon as you want to cook lots of it on/in something its too oily so you want something else!

The best all round cheese? Surely it's Edam..

[GD]That's more of a sphere, most other cheeses come in round formats.[/GD]

I'll always have a good mature cheddar and fresh Parmesan as my must haves. After that a Tunworth or Stilton for pure cheese eating pleasure.

i'm still addicted to a good Cambozola for pure cheese eating, especially if its left out and aged to the point it's growing legs and running off the counter top.
