will be upgrading my sons computer later in the year and have started to grab bits for it,
he has one of my old AM4 motherboards, he is looking to hopefully nab a 4080 super come black friday, and I'm worried about bottlenecking the gpu because of the cpu, I did nab a 5700x3d for an okay price, since I know that they will be mainly out of stock soon, but after looking into it, it seems that that cpu will not be enough for a 4080 super,
so what is the best AM4 cpu to run the 4080 super, is it the 5800x3d, my searches are getting a bit mixed up with the am5 x3ds see?
thanks!

if a 5700X3D is being bottlenecked significantly then 400mhz isn't going to make much difference.
Just a clock speed deficit compared to the 5800X3D, it's fine.

I hear your aguments in favour of the 5700x3d, it's just that this will be the last ever cpu upgrade for the computer, I know that the 5800 can even handle a 4090, and my 4090 might trickle down to him at some point, along with my 4k monitor.

you'll be paying a hell of a lot more than 10%
nah, a new 5800x3d was a pretty reasonablly priced for me, it arrived today with a surprise DPD visit, it's also come with a freaking wraith prism cooler, which I was really not expecting either. as I thought the retail 5800x3d came without a cooler.
