What is the best C&C game?

One of my fondest memories of pc gaming is discovering C&C1 was like Dune 2 from a mag, and playing right through it.
I discovered it that way too. I was at uni, and alone in the house one night so whilst I was just reading various PC Mags at my desk, I decided to install a demo of a game billed as a 'superb cannon fodder' clone.

This was in the age of no interwebs so magazines were the only good way of getting stuff like this. Over the next 2hrs well into 4am territory I was struggling to handle the lone Obilisk that was battering my forces until I discovered the Orca. I was hooked, and that was my first ever RTS.

Red Alert 2, by a mile. I used to love playing it online years ago!

Me and my mate used to love the original RA on the Playstation, linking the two of them up with two TV's- quality.

I bought RA2 not so long ago, and still play it every now and then on the laptop, it sucks that the westwood servers are dead otherwise I could still play online.

I have generals too, but I just didn't like it as much and haven't bothered with any of the other new ones.

The NOD artillery was great. They were really slow and had no armour, but if you managed to sneak a load close to the enemy base and they let rip, nothing would survive :p

yeah, but problem with NOD was you stupid war factory was a airstrip and had to fly the width of the map most times.

You can mate! The servers are now looked after by XWIS / Strike-Team, you can play Quickmatch, it is still ranked etc.

And even better, if you encounter a cheater, and take SS's they WILL get kicked off the game.

And of course, you can just play FFG's in custom match, with custom maps etc!

Tib Sun for me, but that's with rose tinted specs firmly in place. RA2 also consumed a considerable amount of my time. Never got into Generals at all.

For me it goes in this order

Red Alert
Red Alert 2
Tiberian Dawn
Generals + Zero Hour
C&C 3

Tiberian Sun
Renegade (if that even counts)

Red Alert without a doubt. The daddy of RA. Hard to believe it's been 12 years since i first played it. Remembered my parents yelling at me because I was kicking some ass with Tesla Coils rather then revising for my 11+ :p

C&C original.. closely followed by Red Alert.. Never been a fan of the series since they started making it all up. I love the tie in with Tesla and Einstein that you had with RA 1..

Generals, although, some people think its not really classed as a C&C. but it was my favorite. probably because it was closer to RL battle situations than other C&C's :p

Real world battlefields come full of randomly placed war supplies from which you can easily assemble tanks in a like 30 seconds  ?

Generals imo is a nice game, but calling it more realistic than any other c&c game is not true imo :p.
