What, as in you think there are a number of good makes? If so, let me know them all.

As above. It's the wrong question to be asking when making a purchase.

A few better ones are:

1) What will you be using the bike for? A mountain bike might not even be the best kind of bike for you.

2) What is your budget?

3) Any specific requirements in mind?

I will be taking bikes out on test rides soon, this is just the pre bike shop visit research.

I've seen Specialized. Yes, nice bikes, the ones I've seen have been a little on the pricey side though.

I like the Trek brand and will research more.

Saw the Whyte brand for the first time today, hadn't heard of them will research. Any input welcome.
