Hello!

I was wondering what would be the best place to put my CPU heat sensor on a socket LGA775 motherboard that gives the most accurate readings??? Would taping the CPU heat sensor lead inside of the socket, at the side of the cpu, and then close the socket plate/lid down be best or would it be best if i just taped the sensor in middle of my heat sink???

Thank you for responding.

I would not place the thermocouple on the cpu (under the heatsink) as this would course poor contact with the heat sink and may not even get the heat sink on, depending on thickness of the probe.
I think the best bet would be to install the heatsink and check for any cutouts or space to place the sensor.

I know not to place the sensor on top of the cpu, but what about the side of the cpu???

If there is room give it a try, it might be the case of trying the sensors in different positions.

If your really brave, the most accurate way to get the tcase temperature, is to drill a hole in the heatsink, so the probe can be as close to the cpu as possible, without breaking the metal metal contact between cpu and heatsink. Its documented in the intel documentation :P. Not always easy with modern heatpipe heatsinks.
