I purchased a gaming PC a couple years ago.... starting to get old, but I think still has decent life in it.

I looked at the minimum spec and recommended spec for a game that I want to play (LOTR Middle Earth Shadow or War) and the RAM is at the very minimum (8GB) so I think its probably the cheapest upgrade anyway.... Graphics card is not up to the recommended level, but its above the minimum... anyway here is my spec (from the email confirmation of my order):

  • Titan Envy M DC Intel Core i7 4790K @ 4.4GHz Overclocked Nvidia GeForce Gaming PC:
  • MSI GeForce GTX 760 OC Gaming Edition 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
  • Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST2000DM001) HDD
  • Samsung 250GB SSD 840 EVO SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7TE250BW)
  • Kingston HyperX 8GB (2x4GB) PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit - Black/Red (HX24C11BRK2/8-OC)

So I have 2 x 4GB RAM and I have 4 slots in the PC - they look the same to me so as far as I can tell they all support the same memory (let me know if I am wrong).

Here is a link to that memory on OC:
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/search?sSearch=HX24C11BRK2

Summary: ~£130.00 for 2x8GB, ~£80.00 for 2 x 4GB.... so quite expensive!

I want 16GB at least, but would prefer 32GB (why?.... not sure, its a bigger number! and bigger = better?!?!).

So the question is, should I:
  • fork out more to get another 16GB (total 2x8GB, 2x4GB = 24GB)
  • Just get another 8GB (total 4x4GB = 16GB)
  • Another option.... possibly cheaper?

Thanks!
