Hi
I am thinking of buying a new monitor for my new rig and was wondering if 2560x1080 would be to much for my single card to handle. I am currently looking at the LG 29UC97C 29" 2560x1080 IPS WideScreen Super-Wide Curved LED Monitor or should I just stay with the 1920x1080

Thanks in advance

This is a question about the capabilities of a graphics card, so probably best asked in the Graphics Cards forum.

But I'd say anywhere between 1080p and 1440p is fine, as long as you remember that at the higher end you'll probably need to turn a few settings down in demanding games.

Depends on the game, I have the exact same card and at 1506mhz it can cope with everything pretty decently but, for example, I had to turn down post processing in MGSV to high to avoid dips below 60fps. The game will still dip sometimes if I point the camera close to Snake's feet while crawling (the dust kills it but I didn't want to sacrifice effects quality).

1080p will certainly allow you to push higer settings but 1440p is doable on a 970 if you're willing to turn down some stuff in certain games. Some titles run beautifully, Mad Max maxed (lol) stays locked at 60fps and I can pretty much play GTAV comfortably almost maxed/custom SweetFX/increased traffic at 60fps with dips to 45fps in really grassy areas. Witcher 3 runs at around 45-50fps.

That's at 2560x1440 though, 2560x1080 should be a wee bit less demanding.

But to be honest I wouldn't bother with ultrawide at 29", it looks weird at this sort of height.

I am slightly concerned about the amount of games that support the 2560 x 1080/1440 and the drop in frame rate with the 1440
I do like my games settings to be maxed so I may go with the 1080
Thanks for your reply's

Not even a wee bit, should be 33% faster.

Deano68 - you could consider a 2560x1440 monitor and run your games at 2560x1080 (if supported in game) for the extra performance if you like the aspect. Would have black bars but look more "cinematic".
