What is the best thermal paste method for GPU ?

I'm thinking of reapplying TIM, and I'm wondering which one is the best method to use on the GPU ?

Depending on which one they have different methods they recommend. I've used the blob and X method before when fitting blocks and can't say I've noticed a difference temp wise and when I've stripped the block off at maintenance stages the spread of paste has covered either way.

On GPU, i used the spread + very small blob in the middle method in the past using MX4 paste. This time i just used the spread method and seen no difference. (both had great results)

Shouldn't realistically be any difference as long as the entire die is covered.

I remember jayztwocents doing a video and practically put a whole tube on with a degree or two effect to temps.

The only thing really that will make any kind of difference is the quality of the paste.

Anyone with an IQ number bigger than room ambient has more sense the j2cents uses in his videos. He and Linus are 2 peas in a pod .. or 2 maggots in rotten apple.

I always prefer the blob method! I think what is more important is to ensure your room is nice and warm to reduce the viscosity of the paste. Just make sure not to get a conductive paste.

I replaced mine with cryonought mainly as I had some paste left over.
Made no difference in temperature at all. Guess my card had good paste already or my application was terrible.

I had a overheating problem with my 980Ti Poseidon a hybrid GPU I just used EK Thermal paste OCUK don't sell it any more.

I applied a small pea sized blob and used the spread method and my temps were back to normal depending on room temp GPU average of 54'c.

After you have applied your paste and tightn'd down the screws after a week if you can nip the screws up slightly as the paste has settled down.
