Having trouble with terrible slowdown in C & C Generals when playing against 7 players on skirmish. It slows to an unplayable crawl but copes with anything else I throw at it. Starts off fine but, obviously, as more and more units get built by the opponents and myself, it gets slower and slower.

What would be the bottleneck? Don't want to do a complete upgrade just yet - waitin for Conroe mobos to mature first!

The graphics card is the slowest component in that particular system, but I wouldn't say there's a true bottleneck. Command & Conquer: Generals is horribly coded, doing a search in the PC Games forum will tell you that people get slow-down even on the best of systems with that game. :(

Meant to say C & C Generals ZERO HOUR - is it coded badly too?

Same thing happens to me too and I've got the X850 XT PE.

The game is just either very demanding or coded poorly for coping with lots of units.

Zero Hour is just an expansion pack, all the code from Generals is still running under it etc. and it was made by the same dev. team, so it's probably just bad coding.
