No real world performance different really, maybe benchmarks. The latency is unlikely to affect overclocking of the processor. However, you can increase lower latency ram from say 8 to 9 to get a higher clock on the ram without compromising stability.

This is not my field really so we need a real memory expert to step in and confirm this.

Hi,

What is the difference between these 2 sets of ram?

Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 (1600MHz) Tri-Channel (TR3X6G1600C9) [TR3X6G1600C9]
and
Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 (1600MHz) Tri-Channel (TR3X6G1600C8) [TR3X6G1600C8]

The price difference is £8 :D

Are these ok for a mildly clocked i7 920 @3.5Ghz + UD5 mobo ?
If not, could someone suggest some other options? Are the sets with heat-sinks really worth the extra £ ? :)

Thanks :)

For $8, I'd get the CAS8 version. If you ever decide to overclock, it should offer a bit more headroom over the CAS9 version.

The machine is now built :)

I did indeed go for the CAS8 ram for that very reason :)
(and in no way was I also swayed by the fact the blue ram matched my motherboard better :D simply the icing on the cake!)
