Someone said to me a little earlier that upon average a TFT will last about 25K hours? I'm sure this can't be correct because if it is my monitor ( Dell2407WFP A04 ) Is currently sat at 19K hours after 2 years. Yes ok it's still under warranty but we had a bit of a discussion about it and I'm sure it would be a lot longer than 25K hours. Anyone ever bothered to research this or is it generally luck of the draw?

So you've basically left it on 24x7 even when not using it? I have my monitor set to turn off after 15mins idle...

I dunno what the life expectancy of a TFT is but I do know that some of the parts generally have a MTF of 50K hours...

No its not been on 24/7, I work in the IT sector myself fixing home client machines and what not. Its probably on about 8-9 hours a day while I'm working.

It's just when he says 25K hours it seems a little short for a monitor really.

To see usage times you turn the monitor off press the + and menu button at the same time keeping hold of the buttons turn the monitor back on and after 4 seconds let go of the + and menu and then press - button. This should bring up the service menu and that lets you know usage.

Myne is currently on 18382 Hours 34 mins .

My Viewsonic 19" jobbie lasted a full 5 days after the 3 year warranty ran out. I recently replaced it with a Samsumg 120Hz which is now sat next to a Samsung 226bw which is 2 years old. I remember when I got the 226bw how bright it was and contrary to what most people seem to do I left it at full brightness as I liked it that way. Anyway, I install the new 120Hz and as normal it has its brightness on full by default but I was shocked how dim the 226bw looked in comparison, I had to turn the brightness down to 50% on the new one for the screens to look the same. I guess what had happened is the backlight on the 226 has gradually deteriorated without me noticing. I don't know if leaving it on full brightness in the first place has contributed to this but I'll take it as a lesson learned in any case, the new one is being left on 50%.

Dell screens clock time plugged into the mains, not time with the screen on.
Must be countdown for when power supply blows up... :p

I doubt that TNs are cheap just because of different LCD-matrix. It's quite probable that also other parts are cheaper and lower quality ones.

Must be time plugged in then as was said. Was thinking to myself really how cack is that 3 years life... 3 Years on time! Thank god!

Cheers

i tried the service thingy and it does not work on mine.

will not let me turn the monitor on while im holding the 2 buttons.
