What is the next WOW?

As title really. What is the next big MMORPG to come out?

I loved WOW for 3 months, but can't see myself ever going back to it. But I would like to play another similar game. Not interested in any that are already out. Just ones on the horizon.

AoC and Warhammer are the ones most people are looking forward to.

Although recently I saw some videos of AoC and the graphics left a lot to be desired.

Graphics>Gameplay?

for instance Counter strike source and Team fortress are my favourite games.... which look rubbish in comparison to Crysis/Doom3 etc:)
 
Guild Wars 2 is on the horizon, adding a persistent world and a lot of improvements on what is already a good game.

Plus there are the Star Wars mmorpg rumours but that might be a way off.

AoC sounds promising but i've heard a lot of criticism regarding the control system, which could kill off a game no matter how good the rest is.

Probably the un-named next-gen MMO Blizzard is working on :p

Warhammer Online looks quite good though..
 
been watching Aion for a short while now..

I've only played f2p mmo's so far, but I'm actually really tempted by Aion, it's looking stunning so far!
 
There won't be another game like WoW - WoW came at a time when there were practically no accessible MMORPGs, with the existing ones at the time only catering for a very niche market. WoW came along and made itself for just about everyone. Now you have 10 million players under its spell, and there won't be another game that will ever do the same. It's like saying 'what online fps is the next counterstrike?'

Although I agree that gameplay is more important the graphics still need to be pretty damn good to survive in the gaming market, the Source versions of CS and TF are being played more than the originals for instance.

With the amount of time you put into an MMO you want the graphics to be pleasing and immersing for a long time to come as it has a lifespan in the years rather than a week/month like normal games. WoW was good in that respect as the visual style they went for didn't focus on real life, however AoC with it's more adult theme will look a lot more dated after a while.

One problem I saw was the running animation looking like you were sliding on the floor. I hope they are able to get the graphics improved, but with only a few months left I am not sure.

I still can't wait to play in the open beta however :)

I know what they ment but as KNiVES said, there won't be another quite like the success WoW has had.

Another good example on this thread is to compare Counter-Strike with what? nothing ;)
