I'm finally upgrading and selling my AGP card :

Gainward 7800gs+ 24 pipeline model.

450/1200 - 512mb.

What would be the equivalent PCI-e card , as i don't want to go backwards in performance.

Budget £200 ( Don't mind second hand )

Chiefly for gaming at 1920 x 1200

Thanks,

Mark

Hi folks I am in a similar position

but I have an xfx geforce 7800 GS which apparently has a core of 440MHz and ram of 1300MHz these are (apparently) the benchmarks

my card

Please can someone tell me roughly how much more powerful the 8800 GTS 640mb is than my card? As (comparing just the core speeds) the 8800gts speed is 580MHz Core, and 1700MHz RAM, but it doesn't seem like a huge difference to me, and yes I am a noob so please forgive my ignorance!

I want to be able to play Bioshock and MOH Airbourne etc in 1024x768 with 4xfsaa on and max details and I'm hoping the 8880 GTS would be able to do this - what do you think?

many thanks for any replies

My x1900XTX copes easily with those games at those settings so a 8800GTS would absolutely cream them :)

ok thanks for the reply.

would this card be twice the performance of my current one do you think?
Yup!

I had a heavily modified and highly overclocked 7950GX2 which equated to performance similar to a 7900GTX SLi setup - that's at least two of your 7800GS but with (assuming yours is the 256mb version) double the video memory.

When i came to upgrade the 8800GTS 640mb was a similar performance to my old GX2 so i decided to get the 8800GTX.

You will be more than happy with the performance of the GTS - it's ace!

As El Jimben says... it will 'absolutely cream them'!!! ;)

Best current card new is the 2900Pro. All overclock to 2900XT speeds & is the cheapest topend card arround too

thanks.

What is everyone else's opinion on the 2900pro? is that around twice the performance of my card do you think? if I did upgrade then I would need at least that amount of improvement, otherwise I may as well try and hangon for a while
