What is the potential diffrence (voltage) out of the motherboard header for your

Touch a multimeter to it while the board is on. LEDs work to fairly specific voltages, but it varies with colour and possibly with other things as well. Digital voltmeter is definitely the reliable option.

well of course i was - just wondering if there was enough potential diffrence for a 555 interfaced with a 4017b ?
 
It probably depends on the LED it's wired too, I guess it probably uses a current limited output. As said, a multimeter will give you your answer...

sweet i can get my hands on one of them :) :D just it's not the mobo i will be usin in the long run is it standardised?
