I used to use adobe fireworks years ago when 56k internet was common, it did a really useful job of compressing images for the web. I used to use it when it was owned by macromedia.

Nowadays after acquisition by adobe, the compression capabilities seems to have been adapted in photoshop. Fireworks has subpar editing capabilities as wel.

I;m curious what is the purpose of keeping fireworks going? Does it have any use that photoshop doesn't have?

To support those that still use it I guess?

They (Adobe) acquired them some time ago, but as it comes with the creative suite I also guess it has some quirky features that are useful.

would really like to know what fireworks has that photoshop does not.

One thing I have used is the batch process which allows you to convert/resize etc large numbers of files easily.

I have learnt fireworks because it was much easier to use as a beginner. Photoshop - you have to read up how everything works before you can start. But now after so many years of fireworks I am forcing myself to do stuff on photoshop that I know and can do fairly easily with fireworks purely because I know the fireworks is limited and consciously making an effort to relearn how to do stuff in photoshop

So you are asking a rhetorical question.

The main reason companies buy others is to engulf the patents and proprietary goods to benefit themselves. There would have been some useful features once upon a time that they gained from doing so.
