What is the purpose of different spin cycle settings on a washing machine?

Hello,

Our washing machine allows you to choose the speed at which the spin portion of the wash goes. I understand the point of the spin cycle, to get excess water out of it before you take it out so it's not dripping wet but what is the point of it allowing you to change the speed? I know that hotter washes tend to damage delicate fabrics and perhaps shrink them. Does a faster spin cycle do something similar? Is there any reason why I shouldn't have it at the fastest speed?

Thanks

Delicate clothes, such as those either made from or containing wool, prefer a much gentler spin cycle. If you're washing jeans or high cotton content clothing then stick it on the fastest turbo spin you have.

It's nice to see this side of you matey :)

Its for the cats.

Some cats like for the spin to be faster, others get sick, so you end up having to wash your clothes again. Its their own fault really, they think they have found a nice place to sleep. next thing they know they are on the water ride of death.
