Got my computer up and running yesterday . finally . have the asus rampage gene 2 at stock speed at the moment . northbride temo is 61c idle ,cpu is 40c idle , are these temps ok , seem a little hi to me .
If it's stable you're fine. My board stops being stable around 4ghz as the northbridge runs too hot.
You can improve temperatures by zero to fifteen degrees or so by taking the heatsink array off, removing the stock thermal paste, replacing with arctic ceramique and putting the board back on with M2.5 screws. At least I think they're M2.5, pretty hard to tell. Measure the diameter of the hole on the board if in doubt.
This doesn't void your warranty unless Gigabyte have reason to believe that you taking it off killed it, so don't gauge holes in the board trying to take the pins out
I started to get instability at over 60c on my Rampage 2 @4ghz so its going under water soon.
As a test I balanced a 60mm fan on my graphics card to blow directly onto the north bridge heat sink which brought the temps down by 20c to the low 40's and its been rock solid since.
