i ordered some g1/4 16mm/12mm compression fittings for petg tubing from overclockers and they unscrew so you can put oring on tube then screw onto fitting. i ended up ordering some more fittings just for spares as overclockers dont sell 12mm bending rubber so i had to order it from another site and thats where i got those thermaltake compressions from but these ones dont seem to unscrew. are these just push fit?

Thermaltake have launched a new watercooling range called Pacific which includes fittings. They've helpfully made it very difficult to find on their website. You have to go to "Cooler" at the top, then tick "Liquid Cooler" on the left and then choose "Fittings" from underneath it. That's the first place I'd have looked! *cough* For that reason, I can't even give you a direct link to the full list.

There do appear to be two types of fitting for PETG - "only compatible with PETG" for some reason. Maybe the fitting sulks if you put an identically sized acrylic tube in :?
Details are sketchy but it looks like:
This one is a compression fitting like you were expecting.
This one is a push-fit like you've ended up with.

Note that I'm assuming the second is push-fit as it doesn't specify anywhere how to use it or anything other than it's for 16mm PETG.

Yeah lots of manufacturers do two types of fitting for their hardline pipes although the push fittings are not normally listed under compression fittings because they arent???

thanks guys yeah its a push fit. im now running into another fustrating thing which is making me give in to water cooling altogether :( i brought the tube bending kit and it came with 10mm rubber insert but i needed 12mm which overclockers dont have so i ended up buying from another site and brought the 12mm rubber insert as my tubes are 16/12 but the thing is when watching videos you really have to squeese those inserts in to get a nice bend but my 12mm ended up inserting in without any oil quite easy and pulls out easy. well after waiting nearly 2 weeks to get my tubes done i started my first bend but guess what i have side flat spot and top flat spot and i figure thats due to my rubber insert not being tight enough :( getting really frustrated now

cheers

It's a balance - say the man who hasn't bent any of his tube yet. Too small and you get flattening of the bend. Too tight and you can't get it out once you've bent it. I've certainly seen people saying that the Monsoon bending inserts are labelled as 13mm...just to throw you off the scent!

these compression fittings are confusing me. i emailed watercoolinguk and they said that they are screw and not push fit. ive has all 6 out the packaging and all 6 will not unscrew. now the scary part is even though they are 16mm/12mm and my tubing is the same i push the tubing into the fittings and i can pull the tube back out without too much force so they cant be push fits.

There's a review out there somewhere where they tested lots of different brand push connectors with different tube and pressure tested them. There really was a massive difference in them and one or two would not have withstood being in a system with a high pressure pump.

In saying that all of them you can pull the tube back out as there is no locking collar like compression fittings, they rely on a tight fit between the tube and the two o rings. But it should be quite hard and resistive pushing the tube in. If it's too easy to push in and out they will never be water tight.

Also because some manufacturers are quoting in mm but manufacturing in inches (or vice versa) you can get size differences. If it's too much it's going to leak.

I am one person who has said that, and they do indeed list as 13mm ;)
