After a look on google images, that sounds like a good shout to me! I'll go with that. I've never heard of liquorice root!

I have some somewhere, left over from one of my failed root beer experiments.

There's a fair few roots/wood ingredients, but I would say liquorice is probably the most common.

From what I remember as a kid, the texture was pretty much how you would imagine it to be, exactly like crewing on a dry stick.

Ever tried eating sugar cane? Used to love getting a stick of that a kid.

I always thought Liquorice was made from some form of aniseed guess this makes more sense though...
