Sorry, I'm very inexperienced with al this car maintainance stuff...

On my car, there is a pipe that goes from the unit that contains the air filter to the exhast manifood, its a metal kind of pipe, but even so its gone all brittle from the heat, and its all torn at the ends and really its only just hanging on.

What does this pipe do? will I damage the car if I don't fix it asap? is it easy to fix? what should I ask for at the parts store?

Car is a '95 Punso SX 1.1 fuel injection

Also, want to do an oil and filter change because its overdue, years ago when my dad used to service his own cars he used to after filling it up with oil, disconnect the main HT lead and turn the engine over to get the oil around it before starting, not sure if this was ever the 'right' way to do things? But I'm guessing that if I tried that with my car than I might break the cat converter and cause it to fail its next MOT?

So what should I do?, just drain it, put the plug bak in, swap the filter and fill back up with the right amount,? or are there steps I should do in between

Pipe connecting air filter and exhaust manifold? No idea..sounds like something to do with emissions control.

As for changing oil...yup just drain....change filter...plug...fill with oil..wait a few minutes to let oil settle in pan...fill more...then fire her up and let it idle while checking for leaks....then shut it off...wait 10 min and check oil level again because after circulating through the new filter it might have gone down.

Isn't that bit of pipe just what goes to the airbox when the engine is cold (I.E. winter to prevent it stalling)

I think your ok for now. If it is the part i am thinking about it goes from the heat shield and connects to the air filter and it's purpose is to take hot air to the carb.

Your ok until the winter comes, it will cost you about 3 quid from halfrauds. Take it off and take it in (Wait till the engine is cold though ;) ) There are different sizes so take it in and compare.

Easy peesy to fit.

Major fault - no carb ;)

Rip it off.

If it stops working, buy another.
