What is this strange box!!!

So I was going through my dads loft and found a tp link t2600g-28mps I know it’s a network switch of some sort but have no idea how to use it. is there any practical use for it in a house Or is it just overkill. sorry for being an idiot but I have no clue when it comes to networking.

Pretty overkill for your average house but same as any other wired LAN really - connect devices to it via Cat 5 or higher rated cables to share files and an internet connection, etc.

It is a managed network switch which adds an extra layer of complexities as you may find you need to log into its interface to configure some stuff depending on setup or needs.
