Hi All,
Yesterday I had a BSOD with a load of slightly off horizontal wobbly lines symmetrical accross the screen. Rebooted with bios reset and all OC off - some thing. Shut down for a couple of hours and lo and behold all ran fine....for about 10 minutes before the same screen garbage. Same again today.
Now, I'm obviously going to pull the PC apart but does anyone have any idea what this may be symptomatic of? I'm guessing this could take a while to diagnose so wouldn't appreciate a few hints.
I've tested the screen - it is fine. Windows boots fine in safe mode. I had an issue earlier that day where the water cooling pump stopped, the PC didn't shut down and the temps did a bit of a Chernobyl. But the temps were nothing I would have though that was high enough to do damage (GPU 88C, CPU 65C, water 50C, compared to my usual loaded 55, 45, 37).
Now I'm pretty much a newbie with all this, but I had a graphics card memory chip go which produced sort of similar reactions and my 9800 GTX has a full face waterblock. Could it be that one of the thermal stickers between a memory chip and the block has detached from the heat? The delayed onset of the screen distortions and BSOD makes me think it is heat related, and as the GPU still registers at 45C, I can only assume part of the graphics card (or some other component is hurting).
Anyone run in to something similar?
Cheers,
Dave
