Hey guys,

I just had a new router in as the other one just collapsed.

When fitting it I thought it would be a standard - ADSL filter in, phone and router in.

When I got around to the back of the house, I found this plugged into the wall socket. I don't know where the two lines go but I just took it out and fitted the ADSL filter which comes with the router.

I'm connected to the internet now, speeds are average for what they usually are at this time in day.

Just confused, I really don't know what it is.

Pic below.

Thanks

Do you need a separate phone line for a fax machine? It looks like two individual lines. I take it the other side has two individual points to plug in phone connectors?

Nope, ADSL in.

Plugged it back in and speeds are still incredibly shoddy in comparison to usual.

I have absolutely no idea, it looks like two phone wires coming in.

If it's phone and adsl in it's an NTE5 face plate. The two wires is what's throwing me and why I asked if faxes need a separate phone line (and if the front was two phone ins).

It's just a plug in adapter that lets you wire in two extensions so you don't have to take the front off the NTE5. I believe Sky used to use these things. Those two wires will go to other sockets or a sky box/boxes somewhere in the house.

Yup

Not exactly rocket science.

2 extensions go in to make one plug..

Your filter should go straight into the main socket, then that should plug into the BT socket on the filter.
