My 360 just went all weird whilst playing batman, all the colours drained and everything was brown with blue bits flickering everywhere,

So I rebooted my 360 and now it signs me in (I can hear everything going on) but there is no image, my tv is picking up a signal but it is just a black screen, I tried unplugging the HDMI cable and plugging i back in but this just causes the screen to go green and flash on and off.

Is it about to red ring or am I looking at buying a new 360?

Thanks

It is definitely broken I already finished batman once so I know what you mean but I can't even display the dashboard at the moment

It is just batman? There is a joker scene which deliberately screws up the image ;)

Scared the crap out of me yesterday, thought my 60gb was about to break the day before I traded it!! Actually looks like genuine graphical corruption!.

Sounds like a dead GPU to me. Try resetting the video settings by holding the Y button when you boot the 360 (iirc), if not that you've got a problem as a GPU failure isn't covered by the 3 year warranty.

I thought Dead GPU got added to the 360 3 year warranty earlier this year as it was a common problem?

I tried this but it just keeps artifacting, a lot, screen stays black but every couple of seconds my background flashes on but it is really distorted and has black lines running all the way through it.

My normal warranty has expired so does it look like I will be buying another 360?

Well, it wouldn't hurt to ring them and see what they say. If you're all immoral and stuff there are ways of attempting to force it to RROD but i don't know the details, i'm sure Google would do the job though :)

The e74 error is something to do with the gpu I believe but it actually displays an error message

Aye that's the problem, you need the 360 to actually display the error for it to count.

But surely if I force and RROD then they will just repair the bit that is broken and I will have the same problem

My 360 did that,i filled there online return form in saying it had 3rrod, because last time mine did this the red rings came a few days later after keep trying to see if it had healed itself lol.You should have just said it had the three rings and sent it back, they fixed mine and sent in back within 5 days, they sent me a totaly diffrent machine,i think they just posted me a refurb and didnt even check mine. This is my 5th 360 in just over 2 years
