My uncle just left the house, and he was talking to my dad, and next thing you know they go into my room and i can hear him tapping away on the keyboard. Now They always watch videos about history or talk about it so i didnt care what they was doing.

Long story short, i go on my PC and notice this thing called VPN? my uncle says its just a programme where if you download something they cannot trace you and you can access any blocked websites, now bare in mind my uncle uses *a website that shall not be named and has Utorrent insalled on my PC.

I PERSONALLY do NOT pirate anything, i recently built my PC and my uncle gave me a cracked OS, I didnt do that i paid for the OS paying full price for it.

So is VPN safe to use? and he did download some movies from a extremley well known piracy website, well i wont say movies, id say documantaries that you cannot buy watch online anymore.

I like the sound of this programme and dont want any bugger watching or trackign what id o on youtube facebook e.t.c also all my family shopping is done on the internet so if our card details got out we would be in so much ****

"VPN" means internet leaves your house, goes to somewhere else, then out onto the internet. It's fractionally harder to trace than just using the internet normally.

The main benefit is if your ISP has decided to throttle some types of traffic and not others, since you can make everything look sort of like https (unlikely to be throttled).

Downloading crap from the pirate bay over a VPN is pretty much equivalent to downloading it without a VPN. You're still traceable. Plus whoever is hosting the VPN can see whatever you're looking at too.

Every time you use VPN, you sponsor terrorism, drug smuggling, and kitten huffing.

I learned that in one of those F.A.C.T. adverts.

Yeah, you don't want the whole interwebs knowing about what your uncle does, or you building a new PC or... oh wait.

I've got one at work. I don't really know what it does but I think there's another computer somewhere else and I think I'm looking at the stuff that's on it.

Or maybe using it to look at stuff.

All I really know is that there's not enough licenses so if we get too excited and all want to look at it at once, I keep falling off.

For future reference if you have a general question, there are these things called search engines which can be used to find answers for you. E.G if you were to search "what is a VPN?" the answer will be displayed before your eyes. It also means you only need to type 4 words instead of the hundred or so you have above. Efficiency yo.

I bought a VPN when I was in China as everything was blocked. Even the VPN until I got some help getting around it from tech support!

Now I find it useful to watch iPlayer and 4od as I don't live in the UK anymore \o/

so its not that safe then i guess?, This may sound like a conspiracy theoery satement but whats stopping the FBI, Mi5, or any organisation creating a VPn and telling us its safe?

NOTHING

That's how they get you. Has your computer got a bit slower lately?

If it has, you need to take it immediately to a scrapyard and get them to zap it with one of the huge magnets they use to pick up cars. They might charge you as much as £500 for this but it's worth it, otherwise you'll probably end up in prison for terrorism charges.

You mad bro.

VPNs are common, very common. I use one for work and can connect to 10 different servers all around the world :)

But on the other hand....as illegal downloading was going on, the police will be at your house tomorrow.
