My system seems so damn slow yet I havent had it that long and after running a 3DMark test on it I now know its damn awful :( Maybe I messed up when purchasing some stuff or I have a dud item in my computer, but I really would appreciate some help please. I got a 9559 score on 3DMark 06 which is pretty rubbish yet my system should do better I think?

This is what I have:
Intel Core 2 Quad Core Q6600 (not overclocked) runs at around 35 degrees C
Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS
Asus P5K Premium
Raptor 150GB Harddisk WD1500A
Western Didgital 500GB Sata drive WD5000
Coolmaster 520W PSU
2GB Kingston DDR2 Memory - 667Mhz I think

I did notice during the 3DMark tests that the CPU graphical tests were 1-2 FPS which seems rather low. Maybe my CPU is screwed? My power isnt enough?

Or maybe my spec is just bad in which case I would love some advice on a new motherboard, CPU, memory please?

I hope someone can help as I'm lost and my PC is slow :(

what model GTS is it the 640mb model or the new 512mb ?

are the power management options off in the bios, ie is the cpu definately running at its default 2.4ghz.

Thanks for the replies so far :)

My graphics card is the PNY Geforce 8800 GTS 512MB

All drivers are upto date, and according to the bios the CPU is indeed running at 2.40 GHz

Hi Badfish

I was on the same boat as you untill I learned some basic features of my system components. Have a look at my specs:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ (Clock: 3ghz)
MSI Platinum MS-7280
4GB OCZ DDR2-6400 Gold Series
BFG 8800 GT OC 512Mb
500Gb Western Digital HD
3D Mark Score: 6297 3DMarks

I decided to make a number of adjustments to the system.

CPU: Standard Clock Speed
Set memory speed to 820mhz (Standard is 800)
Set Hyper Transport link Speed from Auto to 1Ghz
Set GPU Clock to 740Mhz and increased Fan Speed (Standard is 620mhz)
Set PCI Express x16 speed to 103 (Standard is 100)

3D Mark Score: 10815 3DMarks

I know next to nothing about overclocking but I can run games all day under these settings without any hickups and the performance gains are dramatic. So maybe your case is similiar in that the standard settings for the system are rubbish and do not fully reflect the systems true capabilities.

Around 10k doesn't sound too far off for a stock quad. Overclock the CPU a little and see those numbers rise.

3dmark is a very CPU loaded benchmark. Not only does ocing bump up the CPU score, it also makes a big difference to the two graphics scores.

Clock the CPU to 3Ghz and you should see around 12k

Download GPUz and check all clocks are standard and the card is running at full x16

Just to chip in, what OS are you using? If its vista its gonna run slow with only 2gig of RAM in, if you want to speed up your overall system I'd recommend purchasing some more RAM, DDR2 is dirt cheap at moment anyway. And as others have alluded to 10K seems bout right score for your setp up, I doubt you've made a mistake and got something set up incorrect, you'd know about it for sure if you did.
