I really do not know what I am doing wrong.

I bought Windows 8 upgrade in 2013 and still have the key in my email. Obviously upgraded to 8.1.

The OS has been doing this issue for 3 months... where it downloads updates, restarts ... says "failed to install" and then reboots again.

I have tried doing a few fixes but none of them work. So i thought... ill just do a reformat. I don't have a disk to just went to SETTINGS > RECOVERY > REMOVE EVERYTHING AND REINSTALL WINDOWS

EXCEPT...

it then says 'Insert Media ....... Some files are missing .... your installation or recovery media should help

well i dont have one... but i went on the windows website to download the iso.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media

easy.... i thought...... just download the ISO, burn it to a disk... and either go boot into cd or go into settings > recovery > remove everything and reinstall windows.

BUT

Neither work. I get an error when booting into the disk and when i do it from settings it says "The media inserted is not valid" Now, I downloaded this from the offical microsoft link above. It is the same OS (Windows 8.1 x64) as I am currently running.

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to this. I have reformatted computers countless of times so I do not know why this one is so complicated! It'd be far easier for me to torrent the OS and crack it than trying to reformat the legit version i have!

has anyone got any info on how to do this!

get the ISO from the Microsoft tool, use a placeholder key to install 8.1 and then change to your windows 8 key once installed to activate and then you should be fine

the tool can do a iso or create you a USB stick if you have 1 to hand

placeholder key below if yours doesn't work during install
