My hard drive is really messy with a lot of files and folders in wrong place and a lot of junks file need to be deleted.

I am going to tidy the folders and files. What is your Directory structure look like for storing movies, video editing, photos, photoshop psd, music, web development, documents and backup? How do you organise it?

It's time to re-organise my directory structure!

-Media

--Applications
--Games

--Holding (Temp DL location)
--etc etc

--Game 1
--Game 2 etc

Easily done...do what works best for you, there is no 'right' way.

SSD -

Windows
Most used programs

Hard drive 1

Program Files
Media

Hard drive 2
Downloads

It's just messy having more! Back ups on a separate external hard drive. (only back up media) everything else could be re downloaded very easily or reinstalled

I used to organise all my music manually, each artist had their own directory and then below that, each album had a directory and there were playlist files in every one.

Same for TV shows, all in their own directories, etc etc.

Now I just throw everything into iTunes and it does it all for me. I really don't care what the folder structure is any more.

C:\ = Windows, Program Files (256GB SSD)
D:\ = iTunes (3TB HDD)
E:\ = Downloads, Dropbox & crap to be sorted for iTunes (2TB HDD)
F:\ = Virtual Machines (1TB HDD)

// Edit - I do have two other internal drives that I haven't bother hooking up yet :o

Good topic. Might give us ideas on how to organise our files better. Mine are as follows, disregarding C: which is just the normal OS drive letter.

D:

- Documents (mydocs, finance, legal, manuals etc)
- Emails (all of my emails archived since 1999)
- Games (games that I've figured out are portable.. drive letter doesn't matter)
- Monserrat (my own compositions, comedy files, clubbing related, Synaesthesia related)
- Music (amateur, unsigned, bootleg as well as commercial)
- Pictures (digital photos as well as 35mm photos)
- Portable apps (Firefox, Winamp, GIMP etc)
- Scanning (scans of old cards, magazines.. keeping a paperless house)
- Today (just a name I gave for my temp folder)

E:

- Bootlegs (film / TV never available in any video format)**
- Mixes (some DJing I've done)
- Set-up & prep (drivers, service packs and config files)
- Youtube (downloads from Youtube using Download Helper)

**I don't want to advocate piracy. I download bootlegs if something was never available to buy in the first place. An example is Knightmare TV series. If it's available, then I always buy it.

I still do that Feek. I don't like the idea of my music files being managed in iTunes, Winamp, Real Jukebox etc.

Cool ideas!

I am thinking doing something like this:

Code:
| - Documents
    | - College
    | - Uni
    | - Letters
    | - Excels

| - Music

| - Photos
  - | - 2003
      - | - Alton Tower
      - | - France
  - | - 2011
      - | - New York
      - | - Wedding

| - Resources (E-books / educational info)

| - Graphics
    | - Photoshop
    | - Web Graphics
      - | - Icons

| - Projects
    | - My Project Name 1
    | - Clients
      - | - Project Name 1
      - | - Project Name 1

| - Archive (Files I rarely access)

I need to think what the best way to store multiple web development projects and link with Wamp. Sometime I can multiple version of same web development project.

C:/ = Non-Important stuff or stuff that changes how windows behaves (customisation etc.)
F:/ = Fraps Video's + Some stuff I don't want to loose.
G:/ = Games and Steam and the likes.
