i really enjoy buliding computers but have no qualifications.

now i want a new job im currently stuck in a dead end factory job testing engines.

i was thinking of doing a btec course (computertechnition) but what jobs would that get me into.

sorry if i sound a idiot but seeing as u are all into computers i thought maybe some of u have some ideas about the kind of job i could go for.

any help really apreciated.

Be a butler.

Seriously, it depends what job you want to do as to whether going to college would be beneficial.

I would look at getting a 1st line position within a large multinational and go from there.

To be honest there is not a lot of money in "PC Building" your better off getting your foot into the IT field by going into a job with 1st line support, im sure a few people on here have mentioned that is doable without any formal qualifications, although to start off with the pay WILL be poor. But its the experience you are after.

i was in the same situation as you a few years back. really wanted to get into IT.

then i became an estate agent :o

not even close to alike either. oops.

i was just after something for experience in business or something like that. ended up really enjoying it and am still here, however much i hate my current employer :p

well im on poor pay at the moment so that wont be a shock,

whats 1st line support sorry for sounding thick

i just thought building computors would be fun job not looking for a major money just a fun job that i could progress onwards to beter things

1st line support is basically answering phones or using a helpdesk system. Nothing technical at first, but like someone said earlier, it's the experience that counts.

Nope, some bigger companies may ask for them, but the majority of the time for 1st line support you wouldn't need any qualifications

Hence why the pay is quite low at first

theres nothing stoping u from placing a ad in local paper "pc repair man comes to you" some thing like that say you do upgrades ect and your sorted your doing what you like but yet i cant see you making a living from it but its a start

has ne1 ever seen 'the IT crowd' i want that job!!!!

seriously, how would i go about gettin a job like that???

for those who havn't the 'job' im thinking of is a 'pc repair guy' or whatever its called who goes round the office fixing pc probz :) (ok mayb it can get boring but it would be much better than the factory job im in now)
